Troopers Stop SUV Driven By Man Having Medical Problem On Parkway In E. Orange
A 68-year-old man was hospitalized Thursday after his SUV was safely brought to a stop by New Jersey State Police on the Garden State Parkway near the border of Union and Essex counties. The incident began when police responded to a report of an erratic driver on the northbound Parkway in Cranford around 10:40 a.m., said Trooper Alejandro Goez. The driver did not respond when troopers in marked cars activated their lights and sirens, Goez said. Troopers managed to use their vehicles to bring the driver to a halt in East Orange. At Least 9K Without Power In Union County
Thousands of people living along and near the North Avenue-South Avenue corridor running through suburban Union County lost power Monday afternoon, according to PSEG. A spokeswoman for the utility said the outages were first reported around 11:38 a.m. Crews were still trying to determine a cause as of early Monday afternoon. At least 9,000 customers in Roselle Park, Clark, Westfield, Cranford and other communities were affected, the spokeswoman also said. She did not have an estimate for when power would be restored.

Police Identify Woman Found In Fatal Cranford Fire
A woman whose body was recovered from a Cranford home during a fire Thursday has been identified, police said. Deborah Meehan, 65, was found on the first floor of the Brookdale Place home, where a fire had broken out around 3 p.m. The home was heavily damaged in the fire, which appears to have started on the first floor. The fire also appeared to be accidental, police said. The Union County Fire Investigation Task Force is continuing its investigation, Cranford police also said Friday.

One Dead In Cranford House Fire Thursday
A fire at a home in Cranford claimed one person Thursday afternoon, police said. The fire broke out at a Brookdale Place home around 3 p.m. Firefighters from Cranford and several neighboring towns responded to the scene, police said. The victim was found inside the home and pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the fire was still under investigation Thursday.

The Cranford Police Department joins a growing number of law-enforcement agencies that have obtained a pet chip scanner, enabling them to reunite missing pets with their owners even faster than before. As break-ins go, this one was a doozy. Police in Cranford were called when a hawk crashed through an upper-floor bathroom window of a home March 20. When police arrived, they found the feathered intruder sitting in the jacuzzi. Cranford police did not immediately release the address of the incident.
