One of three occupants in an SUV that slammed through a fence and into a wooded area off Route 17 early Monday afternoon was hospitalized, witnesses said. A Paramus police officer spotted the BMW X5 speeding but didn't pursue it, contrary to media reports, a source with direct knowledge of the incident said. Capital Region Man ID'd As Victim In Deadly 2-Vehicle Crash
A 64-year-old man from the region has died following a two-vehicle crash in New Jersey. The wreck happened at around 5:45 p.m. Sunday, March 10, on Route 78 in Warren County. Carmen Berretta, of Albany, collided with another vehicle while driving eastbound on Route 78 in Pohatcong Township, authorities said. He was taken to St. Luke’s University Hospital in Bethlehem, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office. The coroner's office and New Jersey State Police are investigating the crash.

Two State Troopers Injured During Traffic Stop On Route 78:

Two state troopers were hospitalized after their vehicle was struck during a traffic stop in Hunterdon County on the early morning of Sunday, Feb. 25, state police said. At 2:50 a.m., troopers were conducting a motor vehicle stop on the right shoulder of Route 78 west in Readington Township when the driver of a Toyota lost directional control and sideswiped the police car, Troy McNair, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said. The troopers sustained minor injuries and were transported to an area hospital, McNair said. The crash remains under investigation, McNair said.

A woman suffered serious injuries in an overnight Long Island crash. It happened around 3:20 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 25 in Brentwood. A 21-year-old Brentwood woman was driving a 2010 Honda Civic westbound on Suffolk Avenue when her vehicle struck an eastbound 2017 Freightliner tractor-trailer head-on at the intersection of Wicks Road, Suffolk County Police said. Toms River Crash Shuts Down Route 9 In Both Directions
A vehicle crash shut down both directions of Route 9 in Toms River for at least an hour, officials said. Route 9 closed at around 3:15 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23, according to the state Department of Transportation (NJDOT). Traffic was blocked between Church and Cox Cro roads as first responders and investigators stayed at the crash scene.
